blind pilot

i am always a little sad when i come across a great album that was released two years prior.
anyways, i would like to express how amazingly chill this album makes me feel.
high strug? baby just press play.
blind pilot, i would like to say thank you on behalf of my ears and heart.

weekend.

a weekend of comfest and sun took one out of me.
i am so tired it is unreal.
i will be laying low and getting back to a normal things.
recipes, photos, projects perhaps.

new!

a while back, i lost my dish soap dispenser AND coffee pot in one swift chain of reactions one morning when gravity got the best of a proped up cutting board in my sink.
i am pleased to have found a new bottle to contain soap.

taco salads. summer.

isnt this what summer is all about?
turkey taco salads, wacko summer ale, patios, friends?
yup.
i love a hot summer.

i made bread.

whole wheat beer bread.
ha.
super easy.

3 cups whole wheat flour
3 tbs sugar
3 packets of active yeast
12 oz beer
combine all dry ingrediants
add beer
mix well
and put dough in glass bread pan
place in cool oven and set to 350.
back for 45-50 min.
i colored my hair while i waiting for the bread to be done baking.
and went on a hot summer night walk with em that ended with 2 glasses of shiraz.

the bread was so good for breakfast.

life of a wallet

i finally did it. i got a new wallet.
i have a specific memory of last time i was with my mom i might have passively mentioned a really needed a new one, all she really said was to that was, "yeah, you do, that's gross katie."

and it is. but i guess i had some crazy attachment to this particular wallet. i got it for my birthday when i lived in new york and was a intern at micheal kors. in the midst today, while shopping, i got to thinking about the life of this wallet.

for the past two and a half years this wallet was everywhere i was. and i have to say who i was two and a half years ago is a nearly a completely different person. i been through some significant changes and experiences, all that which have aided me into becoming who i am today.

grime from the experiences i had while actually living in the city
senior year at kent and everything we went through at that house on south lincoln
countless all nighters
3 day hauls every weekend downtown at the bars
the river
tuesdays at guacamole's, pulp, chipotle, bottles, friday mornings at the goat
that shitty little job at had at justice
the numerous trips we all took back to the city.
graduation
the last night i had in kent, sitting on the back of the uhaul my parents rent to move all my crap to my sparkly new life in columbus
everything i have had the opportunity to experience for the past year i have lived down here.

all these things are embedded into its fabric.

365 days exactly have passed since i moved to columbus. i resigned my lease to my apartment for another year and i am more than content finally being able to stand still for a while.
i did love my old wallet, but there couldn't be anything more exciting than change.

i am pleased with this gem i found at TJ's this afternoon. its cute and will stay a lot cleaner and my old one. i finally know myself well enough to some anything of light fabric is a struggle to keep clean. picking a cream canvas wallet might not have been the smarter idea for someone such as myself.

some cool pictures

i like these.

magnetic spice holders

i never get packages really so i was super excited when i had a pretty little package waiting for me at my door when i got home from work.

one of my bestfriends mal sent me a little birthday present.
magnetic spice holders.

i love you mal.

sweet potato echiladas

quite possibly my favorite thing to make.
usually includes nice night with friends and lunch for the next three days.

ingredients:
3 medium poblano peppers
2 sweet potatoes
can of black beans
red onion
(i used a 1/4 of an onion because of picky friends)
olive oil
cumin
fresh cilantro
(i didn't use this time because i blindly picked parsley up)
whole wheat tortillas
enchilada sauce

first, coat the poblano pepper lightly with olive oil and broil on a baking sheet on high.
this makes the skin bubble up and turn a little charred and will set off sensitive smoke alarms when you turn them over.

it is annoying.

while the peppers are broiling cube the sweet potatoes up.

when peppers look like this, place in a large ziplock freezer bag.
this makes the skin really easy to peel off.
dice onion and peppers.
then combine all ingredients in a bowl.
roll mixture in whole wheat tortillas, place in a glass dish,
cover with enchilada sauce and cheese.

this was the exact monday night i needed.

my favorite 59 cents ever spent.

first matter of frustration is it is so hard to find 6 x 6 frames or 4 x 4 frames for my diana prints. i am not crazy about putting every print in a frame, but it would be nice to put my favorites up in my already over framed apartment.

i found this sad little frame at goodwill for 59 cents.
robbery.
all it needed was some chartreuse paint and one of my favorite prints.

cherry oatmeal bars

work, travels, birthdays for the past three weeks have kept me really busy.
yesterday i finally had time to go to the grocery store, get some food to actually make my fridge look like someone eats in my apartment, and bake.

i found this recipe but made a few of my own touches.

you need:
1 cup flour
1 cup quick oats
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 baking soda
1/8 salt
1/2 butter (room temp)
cherry preserves

i pour myself a nice glass of peach tea.

put on my pretty little apron a very special girl got me in boston,
and put on some music.

combine dry ingredients in a bowl, making sure all brown sugar clumps are broken up.
with your hand, smoosh the butter in.

using half the mixture, crumble into a greased glass baking dish and then press down.

spread preserves on, and then crumble the rest of the oat mixture on top.
bake at 350 for 35 min.
there you have it.
